Egypt is a year-round destination, but the experience changes a lot depending on when you go. Broadly speaking, the country has two seasons: a cooler period from October to April, and a hot summer from May to September.
October to April is the most popular window for visiting Cairo, Luxor and Aswan. Daytime temperatures are comfortable for sightseeing, and evenings can be cool enough for a light jacket, especially in December and January.
If you are mainly interested in the Red Sea coast — Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh or Marsa Alam — the summer months are actually ideal, since the sea stays warm and diving conditions are excellent, even if inland temperatures climb.
Whichever season you choose, book your Nile cruise and any hot air balloon rides in advance, as both fill up quickly during the peak winter months.
